I was regularly looking at the “not found – common” and “not found – obscure” lists and kicking myself for missing (in hindsight) what I thought were really obvious words.

After being regularly beaten by some of the office nerds, I though there must be a way to improve. I knew that my fingers were not going to get much faster, and that there were only so many 3-letter words in the dictionary I could swipe in two minutes.  I had to train my brain to spot some of those high-point words better and play smarter.

My solution was to create a solver, which I coded over a few evenings using Perl and the SCOWL word list from Kevin Atkinson (and other contributors). I had to do some scrubbing to remove acronyms, pronouns and words with apostrophes, and tweak some words (eg. cafe) to remove inflections. It’s not a perfect match of the dictionary used by the Wordament team, but its a great starting point. Further improvements may come later.

Try the Wordament Solver and train your brain to success! But remember, use it for good, not evil. Cheating is not fun and when you  get caught, you will be at the mercy of the Wordament team!
